OpenAI has officially announced the integration of Bing search engine functionality into ChatGPT, enabling real-time web search capabilities, while DALL-E 3 enters its beta phase.

Over the past year, ChatGPT has been limited by a data cutoff date of September 2021, preventing real-time searches, but this limitation has now been overcome.

In recent months, OpenAI has been testing the introduction of web browsing capabilities into ChatGPT. However, this move has been accompanied by risks, as unlike static training datasets, web content cannot be meticulously filtered, potentially leading to inappropriate behavior and confusion.

In May, OpenAI began rolling out web search via Bing, the search engine owned by Microsoft, a major supporter of OpenAI, and expanded access to the ChatGPT mobile app in late June. However, the new feature was quickly withdrawn after it was discovered that ChatGPT could display paywalled content.

It wasn't until the end of September that OpenAI reintroduced the 'Browse with Bing' feature. After improvements, ChatGPT now promises to comply with any directives in website owners' Robots.txt files, similar to traditional web crawlers. Now, all Plus and Enterprise subscribers can officially use Bing browsing without needing to toggle the beta switch in settings.

Meanwhile, OpenAI has also transitioned its image-generation model DALL-E 3 into beta. DALL-E 3 is integrated with ChatGPT, meaning users no longer need to meticulously craft text prompts when requesting images, as ChatGPT can generate images closer to their needs.

Additionally, with DALL-E 3 directly integrated into ChatGPT, users can receive images as part of text-based queries without switching applications. DALL-E 3 is currently available on web and mobile devices, and users can enable this feature by selecting 'DALL-E 3 (Beta)' within ChatGPT.

This update is part of OpenAI's effort to develop ChatGPT into a fully integrated real-time multimedia search engine, no longer limited to pure text generation.

Meanwhile, last month OpenAI also enabled ChatGPT with voice conversation capabilities, providing users with more diverse interaction methods including voice and image search. This represents a significant advancement, making ChatGPT an even more versatile AI tool.
