According to the latest data, ChatGPT's mobile app performance is mixed. On one hand, this AI chatbot app continues to see growth in downloads and revenue, with September setting a new record: 15.6 million downloads globally and nearly $4.6 million in revenue.

However, according to new data from market intelligence firm Appfigures, revenue growth is starting to slow. Over the past two months, ChatGPT's mobile revenue growth remained above 30%, with 31% in July and 39% in August. But by September, the growth rate had dropped to 20%.

The slowdown in revenue growth may be the first sign that mobile users paying for the ChatGPT+ subscription service are reaching saturation. This premium subscription, priced at $19.99 per month, offers faster response times, priority access during peak hours, and early access to new features and improvements. So far, the subscription has performed well, with ChatGPT's mobile revenue reaching $2.1 million in June, $2.74 million in July, $3.81 million in August, and now a new high of $4.58 million in September.

However, ChatGPT is not the highest-earning AI app. A competitor called Ask AI has achieved higher revenue through significant marketing investments, growing from $6.48 million when ChatGPT's mobile version launched in May to a peak of $6.55 million in August, according to Appfigures. In September, it dipped slightly to $5.51 million but still outperformed ChatGPT. Other competitors like Genie and AI Chat Smith have not grown as rapidly as Ask AI.

Of course, considering Ask AI's marketing expenses, the net revenue picture may differ. After Apple and Google took their cuts from in-app purchases, ChatGPT netted approximately $3.2 million in September.

Appfigures estimates that ChatGPT reached 15.6 million downloads in September, with cumulative downloads exceeding 52 million. The Google Play Store contributed 9 million downloads, while the App Store added another 6.6 million.

It is evident that the App Store contributes the major share of the revenue, with in-app purchases on the platform amounting to $3 million last month. The US market is the largest market for this AI chatbot application, accounting for over 60% of ChatGPT's revenue.
