Apple to Increase Investments in Generative AI
-
On September 29, according to a BBC report, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated in an interview that the company plans to hire more employees in the UK to work on artificial intelligence (AI).
Cook reiterated that Apple is actively researching generative AI technology and mentioned that the company's investments in the UK and AI are expected to grow. He also highlighted that AI technology already supports several features on Apple devices, such as fall detection, crash detection, and predictive text autocorrect in iOS 17.
According to a previous report by The Information, Apple has significantly increased its investments in the AI field. The company has established a team called "Foundational Models," which, despite having only 16 members, sees Apple spending millions of dollars daily on AI research.
As previously reported by IT Home, similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT, Microsoft's Bing, and Google's Bard, Apple has developed an "Ajax" framework for its AI projects and created its own internal chatbot, which some engineers refer to as "Apple GPT."
The "Ajax" platform is built on Google's Jax machine learning framework and runs on Google Cloud. Apple had considered signing a contract with OpenAI and tested its technology but ultimately abandoned the plan.
