Databricks announced on Thursday that it is incorporating OpenAI’s models, including GPT-5, into its data platform and AI product, Agent Bricks, as part of a $100 million multi-year deal. This move underscores the company's confidence in OpenAI’s ability to attract enterprise customers by integrating advanced AI tools securely with corporate data.

Agent Bricks enables organizations to develop AI applications and agents using various AI models, now including OpenAI’s latest offerings accessible via SQL or API. GPT-5 is positioned as a flagship model for Databricks users. This follows Databricks' earlier integration of OpenAI’s open-weight models, gpt-oss 20B and gpt-oss 120B, allowing Agent Bricks to evaluate model performance and fine-tune results for specific tasks.

Brad Lightcap, OpenAI’s COO, stated, 'Our partnership with Databricks brings our most advanced models to secure enterprise data environments, simplifying AI experimentation and deployment for businesses.'

Under the agreement, Databricks guarantees OpenAI a minimum of $100 million, regardless of revenue generated by the models. The deal mirrors Databricks' earlier $100M revenue-targeted partnership with Anthropic. A Databricks spokesperson noted strong customer demand, including from Mastercard, for native access to OpenAI’s models.

The deal carries potential downside risk for Databricks but provides OpenAI with predictable income as it expands its data center infrastructure. Neither company disclosed the agreement's duration.
