Google announced on Tuesday a series of updates to the Play Store's design and functionality to enhance user personalization and engagement. The changes include a redesigned Apps tab, a new Play Games experience, and features leveraging Gemini AI. Google Play Games VP Aurash Mahbod highlighted the goal of helping users discover content tailored to their interests.
The update introduces AI-powered features like Guided Search, allowing users to find apps by typing goals instead of names. The Apps tab now includes curated spaces for seasonal and interest-based content, such as WNBA-related topics in the U.S. and regional interests in India and Japan.
A new 'You' tab centralizes subscriptions, rewards, and recommendations, while gamers benefit from a personalized profile with GenAI avatars. The Games tab consolidates stats, achievements, and community features, with Play Games Leagues launching for competitive play.
The AI-enabled Play Games Sidekick offers real-time gaming assistance via Gemini Live, eliminating the need for external tutorials. Initially supported in games from EA and Netmarble, the Sidekick also organizes gaming info in one place. Enhanced Game Detail Pages and the exit of Google Play Games on PC from beta were also announced.
