Zhihu Unveils Latest Progress in Large Models, Enabling AI Search and Real-time Q&A

On March 20, at the 2024 Zhihu Discovery Conference, Zhou Yuan, founder, chairman, and CEO of Zhihu, disclosed the latest advancements in Zhihu's large model and introduced a new AI feature called 'Discovery·AI Search.'
At the 2023 Zhihu Discovery Conference, Zhihu launched 'Zhihai Tu AI.' This year, Zhou Yuan unveiled the new community AI feature 'Discovery·AI Search,' which leverages the 'Zhihai Tu AI' large model, integrating search, real-time Q&A, and follow-up questioning capabilities.
During the conference, 'Discovery·AI Search' demonstrated its extensive knowledge base, capable of answering both historical knowledge and the latest technological trends. For example, outdoor enthusiasts inquiring about 'what backpack to use for a two-day, one-night camping trip and brand recommendations' can trace back to high-quality, professional answers from real users. Users can not only delve into the expert content but also conveniently follow up with the answerers for further consultation.
Trustworthiness is the keyword for Zhihu's new AI products. Zhihu began as a community—what builds trust in a community? Zhou Yuan's answer to this question is: professional and authentic sharing from real people, earnest and friendly interpersonal communication, and transparent and efficient information mechanisms. Today, beyond its community, Zhihu has also established two major brands: Salt Story and Zhihu Academy. "Zhihu will become an open loop in the future, deepening the loop on a trustworthy basis and exploring more new open opportunities," said Zhou Yuan.
It is worth mentioning that Zhihu also launched several new products and initiatives at the conference, including "Sea Salt Plan 6.0: Voyager," the "DEEP TRUST Marketing System," and the "Short Story 3A Plan."
Among these, "Voyagers" are enthusiastic users of the community who exist in various fields within the platform. Their "upvotes" and "downvotes" will serve as high-value signals for Zhihu's content distribution and community management. The interactions of "Voyagers" can help algorithms better understand opinion-based content, which can then be extended to similar users of the same type, making "upvotes" and "downvotes" more impactful.
Starting today, the "Voyager" status on Zhihu adopts an official invitation system, targeting two types of Zhihu users for invitations: one is professional users who have completed the blue badge identity verification in their respective fields; the other is users with high activity in the community, whose consumption and interaction behaviors are representative. Additionally, Zhihu will offer "Voyagers" exclusive benefits such as special merchandise, priority access to product experiences, and priority participation in offline events. 3A represents AI (Artificial Intelligence), All Population (pan-demographic), and All Media (omnimedia). Zhihu stated that Salt Story has become the largest short story production and consumption platform in China. In terms of AI applications, Salt Story will explore innovations in large model applications for short stories, including text-to-image generation, text-to-video generation, and creative assistance.
It is reported that large models have been widely used in generating covers for Salt Story, and will soon be applied to video generation scenarios for the platform.
Currently, Salt Story has authorized nearly 100 IPs for film and television adaptations, with over 400 self-produced radio dramas and audio dramas released. Additionally, Salt Story announced a strategic partnership with Kuaishou to jointly explore new ecosystem approaches in short-form dramas, including the development of story IPs into short dramas and the opening of copyright libraries.
