Apple Acquires Darwin AI, Official Response: Routine Investment Activity
-
Apple has made another move in the AI field earlier this year by successfully acquiring DarwinAI, further strengthening its capabilities in artificial intelligence.
DarwinAI is a startup headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Since its establishment in 2017, it has focused on the research and development of two core technologies: one is using AI technology to inspect components in the manufacturing process, and the other is building smaller and more efficient AI systems through machine learning. According to disclosures from the Canadian startup community Communitech, DarwinAI successfully secured $6 million in funding in December 2020, bringing its total funding since its founding five years ago to $15.5 million.
Regarding this acquisition, Apple stated to the media that acquiring small tech companies is part of its regular investment activities, but did not disclose specific acquisition purposes or plans.
However, considering DarwinAI's technical capabilities and Apple's continuous investments in the AI field, this acquisition is expected to inject new vitality into Apple's development in artificial intelligence.
