The '2023 China Online Literature Development Research Report' released by the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences indicates that the market size of online literature has reached 300 billion yuan, with the reading market accounting for 40.43 billion yuan and the IP market reaching 260.5 billion yuan.
The number of online literature writers has reached 24.05 million, with 36.2 million works and 537 million users. Considering China's total internet user base of 1.079 billion, nearly half of Chinese netizens are online literature readers.
The report highlights that the globalization of online literature in 2023 has become a standout feature, with Chinese online literature's influence in overseas markets continuously growing, showing significant increases in the numbers of writers, works, and users. Online literature, games, and film and television have become key areas for 'cultural exports,' with Chinese-language IPs gradually entering the global stage, and overseas markets exhibiting vigorous development. Additionally, the report points out that AI technology is increasingly influencing the online literature industry. AI-assisted technologies have improved writers' creative efficiency and accelerated the speed and quality of IP development.
