Lei Jun Temporarily Steps Away from Xiaomi Phones to Focus on Automotive Business
-
On February 3rd, Lei Jun suddenly announced that he will temporarily step away from Xiaomi phones.
According to Lei Jun, the Xiaomi SU7 is undergoing nationwide road tests, and the company is currently making final preparations for its launch, requiring more of his attention.
"To allow me to focus more on the automotive business, the company has decided that Lu Weibing, the group president, will also serve as the general manager of the Xiaomi brand. He will host future Xiaomi phone launch events, starting with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra," Lei Jun said.
Lei Jun also reiterated, "Rest assured, the smartphone business remains Xiaomi's core focus, and I will continue to dedicate sufficient effort to it. Thank you for your support!"
As previously stated, Xiaomi's first car, the SU7, will officially enter the SOP (Start of Production) phase in mid-to-late February, marking the start of mass production.
Reports indicate that production in March is planned at around 2,000 units, with capacity expected to ramp up by mid-2024, reaching over 10,000 units by July.
Industry professionals noted that Xiaomi's production timeline is at a normal pace—confident but not aggressive—matching the standards of many established automakers' mature production lines.
