Driven by the ChatGPT-led generative wave, Microsoft has undoubtedly emerged as one of the biggest winners. Not only has its market capitalization reached a historic high, surpassing the $3 trillion mark, but its AI-driven revenue has also set new records. In the second quarter of fiscal year 2024 (ending December 31, 2023), Microsoft reported revenue of $62 billion, an 18% year-over-year increase, and net profit of $21.9 billion, up 33% year-over-year, making it one of the most profitable tech companies globally.

Thanks to the generative AI boom, industries are being reshaped, creating immense commercial value, and businesses are accelerating their intelligent transformation. According to an earlier Gartner survey, 98% of leaders believe generative AI will transform overall enterprise operations. Microsoft is utilizing ChatGPT to improve its product services, including fully integrating GPT into Office and significantly enhancing productivity with the AI-powered Microsoft 365 Copilot. This combines advanced AI technology with natural language interaction to provide users with instant, personalized information and solutions, introducing interactive AI assistants across various business applications.

As enterprises actively promote the application of large AI models, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated, "We have moved from talking about AI to applying AI at scale. By integrating AI into every layer of the technology stack, we are winning new customers and helping every industry drive new benefits and productivity gains."

In professional services, for example, KPMG has seen a 50% increase in employee productivity; EY is using Microsoft 365's Copilot to generate reports more easily and access near real-time insights. Bayer has identified significant potential in over 700 application areas using generative AI and Microsoft Copilot, while continuing to explore more possibilities. Sig, Vice President and Global Head of Digital Workplace at Bayer, revealed Copilot's outstanding contributions in three key areas: First, boosting productivity—employees can now handle emails, organize information, and review documents more efficiently, significantly improving work efficiency. Second, strengthening team collaboration—with Copilot, team members can more easily understand their roles and progress in projects, enabling better teamwork. Third, sparking creativity—Copilot not only provides creative inspiration but also helps generate initial drafts.

A previous survey on business trends showed that 90% of workers hope AI can help reduce repetitive tasks in their jobs. Dynamics 365 Copilot offers AI tools for employees in sales, customer service, marketing, operations, and supply chain roles, helping them reduce tedious repetitive work and allocate more time to creative tasks.

In the AI field, collaboration is crucial. Copilot is a powerful collaboration tool built on Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, enabling comprehensive application design and operations from the cloud to edge devices. It is evident that Microsoft's commercial Copilot will become a driver for the next generation of business growth. As a result, revenue from productivity and business processes reached $19.2 billion, a 13% increase. "Through Copilots (AI assistants), we are bringing individuals and businesses worldwide into the AI era," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. He emphasized that AI is being rapidly integrated into every layer of the technology stack, as well as every role and business process, to enhance customer productivity.

Notably, Microsoft is delivering its AI capabilities through cloud services, thereby driving continuous expansion in the cloud service market. By revenue, Microsoft is the world's largest cloud service provider.

Microsoft's CFO reported in the earnings release that the company's cloud revenue reached $33.7 billion in the second quarter of fiscal year 2024, a 24% year-over-year increase. Among all business segments, cloud services performed the most impressively, with Intelligent Cloud now being the largest business segment. In the second quarter of fiscal year 2024, revenue from the Intelligent Cloud segment reached $25.9 billion, representing a 20% year-over-year increase. Notably, Azure and other cloud services revenue grew by 30%. Microsoft now ranks second in the global public cloud market, behind only Amazon, and has been gradually narrowing the gap with the market leader.

It's worth highlighting that since Satya Nadella took the helm in 2014, Microsoft has undergone a remarkable transformation by betting on cloud computing and artificial intelligence. This strategic shift has enabled the veteran tech giant to reinvent itself culturally and operationally, evolving from an operating system software company into a cloud services platform enterprise. Today, Microsoft's cloud-based applications are ubiquitous worldwide, making its transformation one of the most successful case studies in global business history and reaffirming its position at the pinnacle of the tech industry.

Finally, as AI becomes increasingly pervasive in society, its economic impact continues to grow significantly. Organizations across various sectors are now recognizing the profound changes brought about by AI-powered intelligent technologies. According to IDC forecasts, generative AI technology is expected to contribute nearly $10 trillion to global GDP growth over the next decade. McKinsey has also stated that deep learning algorithms like OpenAI's ChatGPT, when further trained on enterprise data, could generate value equivalent to $2.6-4.4 trillion annually across 63 business use cases.

Driven by ChatGPT, artificial intelligence has entered the era of large models. This has ushered in a new period of rapid development for AI, particularly as digital transformation and intelligent upgrades sweep across all industries. AI large models have become the key enablers of digital transformation, which explains why numerous tech companies are successively launching large model services to empower digital transformation across various sectors.

With generative AI taking center stage, AI companies will not only assist in digital transformation across industries but also encounter significant development opportunities themselves. Personal opinion, for reference only.
