China Ranks First Globally in AI Patent Applications! Also Leads Significantly in Research Papers

Recently, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) officially released the 'Global Digital Economy White Paper (2023)'.
The white paper indicates that the AI industry is experiencing rapid development, with increased innovation and application efforts, and the steady growth of the digital technology industry is unleashing enormous development potential.
In terms of patent applications and grants, from 2013 to Q3 2023, global AI patent applications have accumulated to 1.29 million, with over 510,000 AI patents granted worldwide. China accounts for 64% of global AI patent applications, ranking first globally.
Regarding AI research papers, from 2013 to Q3 2023, there were 1.17 million papers globally, with China contributing 368,000 papers, ranking first globally, and 110,000 high-quality papers worldwide.
According to forecasts, the global AI market revenue is expected to reach $513.2 billion in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 20.7%.
From the perspective of enterprise development, as of Q3 2023, there are 29,542 AI enterprises globally, with China and the U.S. accounting for nearly half of the total. The U.S. has 9,914 AI enterprises (34% share), while China has 4,469 (15% share).
