On December 28, Xiaomi launched its first new energy vehicle, the Xiaomi SU7. Lei Jun stated at the launch event, "I believe the pricing of the Xiaomi SU7 is indeed a bit high, but it will definitely make everyone feel that it's worth the price."

On January 2, a related topic about Lei Jun claiming that the Xiaomi SU7 has no rivals under 500,000 RMB surged to the top of Weibo's trending list.

On January 2, Lei Jun posted on Weibo, "Xiaomi SU7, who can compete in the same tier?" In the comments section of this post, a netizen remarked, "Without a price, we don’t know who is in the same tier. Hurry up and announce the price, Lei! I want to buy a car for the New Year."

Subsequently, Lei Jun replied to this comment, "Under 500,000 RMB, is there any rival?"

Previously, at the Xiaomi Auto Technology Launch Event, Xiaomi Group founder Lei Jun elaborated on the performance of Xiaomi’s first sedan, the SU7. In Lei Jun’s comparison, Xiaomi’s car boasts performance metrics on par with Tesla’s Model S, with no lag in three key indicators: 0-100km/h acceleration, 100km/h-0 braking distance, and top speed.

Regarding this, Lei Jun once stated: "So don't shout about 99,000 (referring to Xiaomi SU7 pricing), it's impossible!" Lei Jun further said: "Any model with this level of performance and configuration would cost over 400,000! So 149,000 is also out of the question—we must respect technology!"

Since officially announcing on March 30, 2021, that it would invest 100 billion RMB in car manufacturing over 10 years, Xiaomi has gradually begun its investment layout in the upstream and midstream sectors of the automotive industry, primarily focusing on semiconductor materials and packaging, autonomous driving, assisted driving, and electric batteries.

    —Significant investment in electric batteries

Among the disclosed investment events mentioned above, Xiaomi's independent investments and joint investments with other investors in autonomous/assisted driving and electric batteries amount to approximately 3.63 billion RMB and 10.28 billion RMB, respectively.

Xiaomi has unique advantages in entering the automotive sector, not only as one of the top three global smartphone brands but also as the owner of the world's largest IoT consumer platform, connecting over 600 million devices. This means Xiaomi has a foundational advantage in the upcoming era of the "Internet of Everything." Considering that new energy vehicles emphasize smart features, Xiaomi can leverage its HyperOS to achieve underlying connectivity between smartphones, cars, and IoT devices. Apart from Xiaomi, it seems no other global manufacturer possesses such advantages.
