On December 27, the AI Development and Governance Innovation Seminar held in Beijing became the focus of global technology attention. At the event, Alibaba Group jointly released the 'AIGC Governance and Practice White Paper' with the China Electronics Standardization Institute, marking a new important progress in China's artificial intelligence governance field.

The head of Alibaba's Technology Ethics Governance Committee stated at the press conference that Alibaba is committed to building a firewall for AI development while continuously breaking through the ceiling of AI applications. Meanwhile, Alibaba emphasized collaboration with various sectors of society to jointly use AI technology to solve more social challenges and promote AI benefits for a broader population.

At the seminar, experts from institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Fudan University, and Zhejiang University came together to explore the development path of AI in China. Professor Pan Enrong from Zhejiang University emphasized the principle of "guidance over restriction," advocating for rapid yet cautious progress in AI development while avoiding unnecessary fears and speculations.

Professor Zhang Mi from Fudan University highlighted the importance of responsibility in the tech industry's AI development, balancing growth with risk management. She pointed out that while there is a global atmosphere of AI competition, excessive focus on safety could lead to technological lag. Zhang called for a long-term perspective, fostering orderly competition and ensuring risks remain within manageable limits.

Alibaba has released its second consecutive AI whitepaper, this year focusing on the field of AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content). Xue Hui, a member of Alibaba's Technology Ethics Governance Committee and a researcher at Alibaba Security, stated that the unknowns about AI far outweigh the knowns, and AIGC presents unprecedented challenges that require forward-looking responses. She mentioned that Alibaba is simultaneously building firewalls and breaking through ceilings, working with various sectors of society to use AI to solve more social problems and promote AI's benefits to a wider audience.

Xue Hui also shared innovative practices from Alibaba's medical AI team in collaboration with the medical community, using the "plain CT scan + AI" method for early pancreatic cancer screening. This technology has not only succeeded in pancreatic cancer screening but also has broad applications in esophageal cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, and other fields. Alibaba's "Cloud + AI" technology platform is helping various sectors solve complex problems and contributing to the progress of human society.
