What Impact Has ChatGPT Had on American Businesses
-
Since its inception, ChatGPT has been a game-changer in the field of AI technological innovation. The United States has the largest number of ChatGPT users globally, accounting for 15% of the total. ChatGPT's adoption in American businesses is like a magic wand, rapidly transforming various industries.
Currently, companies are exploring how to use AI, especially generative AI. Many businesses are excited about the changes brought by dynamic tools like ChatGPT. However, beyond the excitement, some American companies are quietly concerned about the risks associated with using this technological marvel.

This article reveals the vibrant innovation landscape in the US regarding the development of AI-driven chatbots like ChatGPT. So, let's take a look at what surprises the future of ChatGPT holds, which are both exciting and tinged with a hint of caution and concern.
A recent survey conducted by AIPRM examined the perspectives of US businesses on using ChatGPT. Last month, AIPRM reached out to professionals from 3,000 companies to understand the adoption of ChatGPT in the corporate world.
Healthcare companies remain reserved about integrating ChatGPT into their operations. According to the AIPRM report, about 24% of healthcare companies expressed distrust in ChatGPT regarding data security.
In the corporate world, other industries also have concerns about data security. About 14% of respondents related to the construction industry, followed by manufacturing, administrative and support services, and professional, scientific, and technical services, each at 8%.
However, in contrast, companies involved in scientific and technical services are embracing ChatGPT and its capabilities. About 33% of scientific and technical service companies frequently use ChatGPT, followed by the retail industry at 30%, and finally the accommodation and food service industry at 24%, adding popularity to ChatGPT's fan club. These theoretical differences make the use of ChatGPT in enterprises a rollercoaster ride of preferences and distrust.
According to AIPRM's research, several companies have raised a series of issues related to the use of ChatGPT in enterprises. Here's what the report says:
Security Risks
Regarding concerns related to using ChatGPT in enterprises, respondents expressed worries about multiple aspects of ChatGPT's integration into business operations. However, the biggest concern is potential security risks. The report states that approximately 22% of participants expressed uncertainty about security aspects related to using AI tools.
During ChatGPT's performance, multiple industries are watching with wide-eyed anticipation for the unfolding plot and potential twists. AIPRM CEO Christopher C Cemper stated in a press release that security risks are one of the top concerns when using ChatGPT in enterprises. Cemper said, "The primary issue many users may focus on most is potential security risks. While generative AI could be abused by malicious attackers seeking to obtain data and cause damage, using antivirus software and secure file sharing can protect workplace computer systems."
Additionally, proper use of antivirus software and secure file-sharing platforms can help address security concerns. Industries and businesses should also verify whether the AI tools they use are legitimate and won't lead to legal issues later. In some cases, generative AI can act as a savior, saving time and money while providing protection against misinformation.
When discussing AI advancements, Cemper stated: "A key factor is ensuring you always stay informed about the latest developments in the technology industry. This will help improve understanding of AI's capabilities, limitations, and risks." Cemper addressed enterprises' top concerns regarding ChatGPT usage and shared insights on how to properly leverage AI to enhance performance. He believes certain industries may fear unpredictable outcomes when adopting new technologies in the workplace, particularly regarding cybersecurity risks. Regarding the unpredictable security outcomes and risks of using ChatGPT in enterprises, Cemper said: "AI itself is not the risk; on the contrary, with proper controls over tools, it can enhance business performance."
Legal and compliance issues
When listing concerns, AIPRM stated that 15% of respondents have worries about the legal and compliance issues of ChatGPT in enterprises. Using ChatGPT for business operations is considered a digital tightrope walk, where a slight misstep could inadvertently lead to copyright infringement risks.
The use of AI-generated content may result in unintentional violations of intellectual property laws, potentially leading to copyright or infringement lawsuits.
Additionally, companies should be able to verify the sources of training data and confirm whether their AI vendors have the legal authority to process the data to avoid any legal issues or GDPR fines.
When discussing AI-generated content, Cemper stated: "Using AI-generated content may inadvertently infringe on existing intellectual property rights, potentially leading to copyright or infringement lawsuits. Additionally, to avoid any such claims or GDPR fines, businesses should be able to verify how training data was obtained and confirm whether their AI vendors have a legitimate basis for data processing.
Query Misunderstandings
Furthermore, the study reports that approximately 21% of respondents worry about queries and prompts being misunderstood. A simple solution to this problem is to provide queries more explicitly and avoid ambiguity to prevent misunderstandings. Complex queries can be broken down into smaller parts to help chatbots understand them correctly.
Before sending queries, checking and editing them can further enhance the experience of using ChatGPT in enterprises, while also providing feedback for continuous improvement.
False/Misleading Information
Finally, 15% of respondents are also concerned about the risk of generating false information when using ChatGPT in enterprises. Given the vast amount of data fed to ChatGPT daily, the potential for misinformation dissemination is a major concern frequently faced by users.
Generative AI is a double-edged sword. While it indeed aids in boosting productivity and multitasking capabilities, it can also fail in providing accurate information, sometimes creating false narratives for users. A prime example is asking ChatGPT to link research reports to a story, as ChatGPT might add fabricated reports without verifying sources. Moreover, ChatGPT can assist individuals with malicious intent in spreading misinformation.
However, by cross-referencing content with reliable sources, advanced AI technologies can also help identify false narratives and misinformation. AIPRM's report highlights this dual nature of generative AI and its usage within the U.S. corporate sector.
