The 2023 ML Insider survey conducted by cnvrg.io, an Intel-owned platform focused on AI and large language models (LLMs), revealed that only 10% of enterprises integrated generative AI (GenAI) solutions into production over the past year.

The survey also found that among enterprises adopting generative AI, about half reported improvements in customer experience (58%), efficiency (53%), and product capabilities (52%), along with significant cost reductions (47%).

It should be noted that despite the clear benefits, the path to adopting generative AI is not without challenges. The survey showed that 46% of respondents identified infrastructure as the biggest obstacle to developing LLMs into products, with other barriers including complexity, lack of AI talent, high implementation costs, and compliance issues. 84% of respondents stated that due to growing interest in LLM technology, they need to upskill themselves, while only 19% felt confident in their understanding of the technology's mechanisms.

On a positive note, the survey highlighted that GenAI technology is making a significant impact on industries. Compared to 2022, chatbot/virtual agent applications increased by 26%, and translation/text generation rose by 12% in 2023, reflecting advancements in LLM technology.
