Huawei's Pangu Model Predicts Typhoon Paths in Just 10 Seconds
-
On December 20, Huawei and Thailand's Ministry of Digital Economy and Society co-hosted the 2023 Thailand Huawei Cloud AI Summit.
During the summit, the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding on digital transformation cooperation. Huawei pledged to promote Thailand's digital transformation and help the country become a regional AI hub.
At the summit, Chen Liang, President of Huawei Cloud Solution Sales, unveiled the Government Large Model, Thai Language Large Model, Meteorological Large Model, and Huawei Cloud AI technology's innovative solutions in key sectors such as finance and retail.
In the field of meteorology, Huawei Cloud and the Thai Meteorological Department jointly developed the Thailand Pangu Model, which provides an AI large model with accuracy surpassing traditional numerical prediction methods, significantly improving forecasting speed.
Predicting typhoon paths now takes only 10 seconds instead of 5 hours, significantly enhancing Thailand's agriculture and tourism through digital and intelligent upgrades.
Located in Southeast Asia, Thailand is in a tropical climate zone frequently affected by typhoons. Timely prediction of typhoon paths will greatly improve disaster prevention efforts.
Additionally, a Thai-language large model has been released. Trained on Thai-language datasets and combined with Huawei's 30 years of industry expertise, the model continuously improves by learning vast amounts of Thai data. This provides Thailand with a familiar language and environment for AI adoption, lowering the barrier to using large models and accelerating the country's transition from an AI user to an AI creator.
