Western Selection Host Suspected of Imitating Dong Yuhui, Multiple Parties Rush to Register Western/Southern/Northern Selection Trademarks
-
Recently, a short video account named 'Western Selection' appeared online, with its first livestream reportedly attracting nearly 1 million views. The account is suspected to be a copycat of 'Eastern Selection'.
Livestream records show the account debuted on December 15 and has streamed twice so far. Its December 17 broadcast experienced a 2-minute interruption.
Notably, the account not only bears a similar name to 'Eastern Selection' but also features a host who strikingly resembles Dong Yuhui, making it a remarkably convincing imitation.
However, the account's content has now been cleared, with all posted videos becoming unavailable, and both its nickname and profile picture reset to default.
Tianyancha App reveals that since 'Eastern Selection's' livestreaming success, multiple parties have applied to register the 'Eastern Selection' trademark. Apart from New Oriental's subsidiary Beijing New Oriental Xuncheng Network Technology Co., Ltd., applicants include trading and logistics companies. While New Oriental has successfully registered several 'Eastern Selection' trademarks, most applications from other companies were rejected or invalidated. Additionally, companies have applied to register 'Western Selection', 'Southern Selection', and 'Northern Selection' trademarks across categories including convenience foods, catering, and advertising. Some applications like 'Western Selection' by a Hangzhou company and 'Southern Selection' by a Xiamen company have been approved, while others were rejected or invalidated.
