OpenAI Responds to Major ChatGPT Outage, Service Now Restored
-
In a Thursday statement, OpenAI announced that a major outage affecting its AI chatbot ChatGPT has been resolved. ChatGPT experienced issues for approximately 40 minutes (from 5:32 PM to 6:10 PM PST), during which the service was "intermittently unavailable."
OpenAI did not explain the cause of the latest outage. Additionally, the statement mentioned that some ChatGPT Enterprise users encountered "elevated error rates," though no details were provided.
This isn't the first time ChatGPT has experienced issues. Earlier this month, OpenAI stated that about 10% of users might have been unable to send messages to ChatGPT. In November, the AI technology suffered another significant outage.
Despite ChatGPT's historic growth as the fastest-growing consumer application—currently boasting about 100 million weekly active users and adoption by over 92% of Fortune 500 companies—OpenAI offered no explanation for the cause of the latest outage.
OpenAI has recently gone through a period of turbulence. In November, the board dismissed CEO Sam Altman, but he was reinstated days later under pressure from employees and investors.
