OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Makes First Public Appearance After Return, Calls AI Progress 'A Bit Scary'
-
According to foreign media reports, Sam Altman made his first public appearance at a forum on Monday since returning as CEO of OpenAI after the 'coup turmoil'.
During the interview at the forum, Altman once again discussed artificial intelligence, describing the technological revolution triggered by AI as 'different from before and a bit scary.'
He emphasized the enormous potential of AI in fields like healthcare and education, believing it 'will elevate the world.' However, he also pointed out that companies like OpenAI need to push boundaries to realize the technology's full potential.
When discussing AI safety, Altman stated, 'You have to deploy it,' because 'it's impossible to build it safely in a vacuum.' This is why OpenAI insists on building AI openly and rolling it out widely.
Altman also described OpenAI as having 'now jumped into this tornado that won't stop,' announcing that he will co-chair a new AI ethics committee.
However, he did not directly address his unexpected dismissal and reinstatement, nor did he elaborate on OpenAI's new governance system.
