Guolian Securities believes that with the upgrade and optimization of foundational AI models, a surge of AI applications has emerged rapidly, many of which have already been commercialized. Overseas, numerous C-end applications have achieved profitability, primarily through subscription-based business models, focusing on emotional companionship, AI painting, and other forms of entertainment.
Domestically, B-end applications like intelligent customer service and office assistants are also being rapidly deployed, but there is a shortage of C-end blockbuster applications. In the long run, AI is expected to extend into fields requiring higher accuracy and professionalism, such as education, finance, and healthcare.

OpenAI Launches Customizable ChatGPT Versions, GPT Store Coming Soon
OpenAI announced on its official website the launch of customizable versions of ChatGPT. According to the announcement, anyone can easily create their own GPT—no coding required. Starting now, users can create GPTs and share them publicly. Additionally, later this month, OpenAI will launch the GPT Store.
OpenAI Announces ChatGPT Weekly Active Users Surpass 100 Million
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced at the company's first developer conference on November 6th that ChatGPT now has 100 million weekly active users. The service was launched nearly a year ago and gained approximately 100 million monthly active users within two months of its release.
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence-driven natural language processing tool capable of engaging in human-like conversations by learning and understanding human language. It can interact contextually and even perform tasks such as writing emails, video scripts, copywriting, translation, and coding.
On March 14 this year, OpenAI released GPT-4, which they described as their most capable model. Since then, millions of developers have requested access to the GPT-4 API, and the range of innovative products leveraging GPT-4 continues to expand daily.
On July 7, OpenAI announced on its official website that the GPT-4 API is now fully open for use. All paying API users can directly access GPT-4 with an 8K context window without any wait.
Tech giants like Microsoft and Google are optimistic about the commercial prospects of AI chatbots and are actively entering this new AI race. Public records show that Microsoft plans to invest billions in OpenAI and integrate ChatGPT into products like Bing search engine, Office suite, Azure cloud services, and Teams chat. Google, meanwhile, plans to launch its chatbot Bard to compete with ChatGPT. In the first half of 2023, Microsoft's stock surged over 40%, driven by the generative AI wave.
ChatGPT Industry Status Analysis and Future Market Prospects
In the large model domain, ChatGPT remains far ahead. On October 10, foreign media reported that ChatGPT continues to set new records in mobile installations and revenue. Data shows that in September, ChatGPT garnered 15.6 million downloads globally on iOS and Android, with total revenue nearing $4.6 million. However, its revenue growth has shown signs of slowing.
Reports also indicate that ChatGPT is not the highest-earning AI app. Ask AI, another app, generated higher revenue due to heavy ad spending, rising from $6.48 million in May (when ChatGPT mobile launched) to $6.55 million in August. Though it dipped slightly to $5.51 million in September, it still outperformed ChatGPT.
Data reveals ChatGPT's mobile revenue grew from $2.1 million in June to $2.74 million in July, $3.81 million in August, and a record $4.58 million in September. Statistics also show that by July 2023, China had released 130 AI large models, with 64 launched in the first seven months of the year alone.
The market potential has been validated. For example, after fully embracing AI large models, Baidu reported Q2 2023 revenue of ¥34.056 billion ($4.7 billion), up 15% year-over-year, with operating profit rising 53% to ¥5.21 billion ($715 million) and net profit increasing 43% to ¥5.21 billion ($715 million).
360 has publicly disclosed the revenue generated by its large model "360 Brain": the AI value-added services provided to customers based on this model have already achieved nearly 20 million yuan in related business income.
SenseTime Group's financial report shows that in the first half of 2023, the company's generative AI-related revenue increased by 670.4% year-on-year, contributing to 20.3% of the group's business, up from 10.4% in 2022. SenseTime expects generative AI-related revenue to exceed 30% by 2024.
Although current ChatGPT technology hasn't fundamentally transformed production methods, it represents a new phase in AI development. In this stage, users are no longer passive recipients but active participants in the production process, while AI transitions from "behind the scenes" to center stage in users' daily lives.
Experts believe that as a crucial component of the digital economy, AI's development prospects are undeniable. As the latest achievement in AI, ChatGPT possesses significant potential for imagination and growth. Current heavy investments in AI by tech giants like Microsoft and Google demonstrate the vast development prospects of AI applications, suggesting the industry may usher in a new wave of development.
IDC analysts indicate that while ChatGPT may spawn numerous startups, relying solely on large models cannot provide sustainable competitiveness. Vertical industry data, scenario-specific model optimization, and engineered solutions are fundamental to implementing AI and establishing competitive advantages.
