With the advent of the 5G era, the consumer electronics market has accelerated its development. The first consumer electronics market to explode was TWS earphones, while AR/VR and smart glasses markets are gradually emerging.

Meizu Launches Two AR Glasses, Equipped with Flyme AI Model

Meizu has released two AR glasses, the MYVU Discovery and MYVU Standard Edition, featuring mass-produced resin diffractive waveguide lenses. Additionally, the glasses come with a dedicated ring that allows users to perform common operations like listening to music, watching videos, and replying to messages through gestures and presses. Both glasses will debut the Flyme AI model. The MYVU Discovery is priced at 9,999 yuan, while the Standard Edition costs 2,499 yuan.

The MYVU smart glasses weigh only 43g, making them the lightest smart glasses globally. Compared to the Discovery Edition, the MYVU smart glasses have a more fashionable design, support personalized customization, and offer a variety of color options, including classic tortoiseshell × natural texture.

Furthermore, Meizu also launched its second smartphone, the Meizu 21, following its acquisition by Geely. Earlier this year, Meizu introduced the Meizu 20.

Currently, the domestic AR market is still in its infancy. According to a report by IDC, China shipped 68,000 AR headsets in the first half of 2023, a 142% year-on-year increase. Despite the significant growth, AR products have yet to enter the mass market compared to mature markets like smartphones.

From the perspective of Shen Ziyu, Chairman and CEO of Xingji Meizu Group, AR presents a new opportunity for consumer electronics manufacturers amid the high homogenization of smartphones. "Currently, domestic AR smart glasses focus on novelty, but we aim to make them an all-day wearable item." He believes Xingji Meizu Group is the most heavily invested manufacturer in the domestic AR sector.

Our report "2023-2028 China Smart Glasses Industry Supply-Demand Analysis and Development Prospects Research Report" contains extensive data, in-depth analysis, professional methodologies, and valuable insights to help you better understand industry trends, risks, and opportunities. With the right foresight in future competition, you can gain a leading advantage at the right time and place.

To date, Meizu has established over 300 retail stores and 400 service stores, with plans to open 1,000+ flagship experience stores in core commercial areas within three years. Shen Ziyu noted that leading smartphone manufacturers typically have 40-60 SKUs per store, but Meizu's product lineup is still insufficient. To ensure profitability for dealers, offline stores must start with high-end products and gradually expand the lineup.

Smart glasses refer to wearable eyeglass devices equipped with independent operating systems, capable of performing various functions through software installations. They have emerged in recent years as one of the most highly anticipated smart wearable technologies.

Characterized by ease of use and compact size, smart glasses are widely believed to enhance daily life. Consequently, they have attracted significant research and development efforts from tech giants like Google and Microsoft, positioning them as a key growth area in future smart technology products.

Smart Glasses Industry: Current Status and Future Prospects

The concept of smart glasses dates back over a decade, yet it has struggled to gain traction in the consumer market. A major reason is that most designs, while appealing to tech enthusiasts, are often unsuitable for social settings and can be cumbersome for prolonged wear. Despite increasing corporate involvement, the AR/VR and smart glasses markets remain in a developmental phase, requiring further advancements before widespread adoption.

AR smart glasses can revolutionize traditional workflows through first-person visualization, remote guidance, and augmented reality integration. They enhance productivity, reduce errors, and improve safety, meeting the demands of Industry 4.0, smart healthcare, and security sectors.

Additionally, AR smart glasses offer immersive educational and entertainment experiences for consumers, driving innovation in smart education, entertainment, and cultural tourism. Chinese companies are leveraging innovative technologies and deep user scenario insights to empower traditional industries.

Major players in the smart glasses market include Microsoft, Huawei, Lenovo, Xiaomi, Google, Samsung, WiMi Hologram, SNAP, Facebook, and ByteDance.

However, applications and research in smart glasses are still nascent. Voice recognition technology, crucial for hands-free operation, faces challenges in noisy or variable environments, potentially impacting efficiency.

With breakthroughs in 5G, IoT, AI, and cloud rendering, AR technology is gaining renewed attention. Chinese manufacturers are accelerating their efforts, signaling rapid growth in the consumer AR glasses market.
