Google Bard AI Chatbot Now Capable of Answering Questions Related to YouTube Videos
-
Google announced that its Bard AI chatbot can now answer specific questions related to YouTube video content. Although Bard had already gained the ability to analyze YouTube videos when it launched the YouTube extension feature last September, now the chatbot can provide you with answers to specific queries about video content.
The company wrote on Bard's update page: 'We are taking the first step in Bard's understanding of YouTube videos. For example, if you're looking for a video on how to make olive oil cake, you can now also ask how many eggs are needed in the recipe from the first video.' We've heard that you want to engage more deeply with YouTube videos. Therefore, we're expanding the YouTube extension feature to understand some video content so you can have richer conversations with Bard.
Before this latest update, Bard's YouTube extension was only used to find specific videos. For example, you could ask the chatbot to find interesting videos for you. Now, you can ask the chatbot specific questions about video content. Suppose you're watching a travel video and see a place you really like, you can ask Bard where this place is located.
This announcement comes two weeks after YouTube began testing new generative AI features, including AI conversation tools for YouTube content, along with a new feature that summarizes topics in video comments.
The conversation tool's responses are generated by large language models that utilize information from YouTube and the web. Users can ask questions about the video they're watching, and the AI conversation will progress alongside the video playback. The comment summarization tool uses generative AI to organize discussion topics in the comment section, providing users with an overview of what people are saying.
This update also coincides with Google opening Bard access to teenagers in most countries worldwide. The search giant stated in a blog post that teens can use this tool to "find inspiration, discover new hobbies, and solve everyday problems." Teenagers can ask Bard about important topics like which colleges to apply to, or more fun subjects like how to learn a new sport.
