Altman to Return as OpenAI CEO
-
OpenAI announced that it has reached an agreement in principle for founder Sam Altman to return as CEO.
Meanwhile, a new board will be formed with Chairman Bret Taylor, Larry Summers, and Adam D'Angelo.
Last Friday, OpenAI's board announced the dismissal of Sam Altman, with Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati taking over as interim CEO.
On Sunday, Sam Altman returned to OpenAI headquarters for negotiations in an attempt to come back, but the talks ultimately broke down. Subsequently, on Monday morning, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced on social platform X that Sam Altman would join Microsoft to lead a new advanced artificial intelligence (AI) research team.
After Sam Altman was fired, more than 500 out of OpenAI's approximately 770 employees signed a joint letter threatening to resign and join a newly established Microsoft subsidiary led by Sam Altman unless OpenAI's board reinstates him.
