ChatGPT's voice feature is now free for all users. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI announced that users can now click the headphone icon in the mobile app to talk to ChatGPT using their voice and receive voice responses.

OpenAI first introduced the ability to prompt ChatGPT using voice and images in September, but this feature was only available to paid users.

This release comes at a time when OpenAI employees are dealing with the sudden removal of their CEO and chaotic recovery negotiations. OpenAI's demonstration on X even made light of the ongoing drama, which has stretched late into the night over the past few days.

During the demo, someone asked ChatGPT: "It's been a long night for the team, and we're hungry. How many 16-inch pizzas should I order for 778 people?" OpenAI has roughly the same number of employees, most of whom recently threatened to resign unless the entire board stepped down.

Last week, OpenAI's board fired co-founder and CEO Sam Altman, citing "inconsistency and lack of candor in his communications with the board." Since then, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella invited Altman and his team to start a new division at the tech giant, but Altman may still return to OpenAI.

Former OpenAI president Greg Brockman resigned after Altman's dismissal. He reposted a post about OpenAI's new features on X, saying: "Try it—it completely changes the ChatGPT experience." According to media reports, Brockman is also open to returning to OpenAI.
