According to foreign media reports, Apple plans to launch iOS 18 on the iPhone 16 and introduce generative artificial intelligence (Generative AI) features to catch up with Google and Microsoft.

Although this marks Apple's first venture into the field of generative artificial intelligence, reports indicate the company has shifted its focus to developing this technology to drive innovation across its product lineup.

Generative artificial intelligence is a rapidly developing technology that major tech companies are striving to incorporate into their product lines. Interestingly, although Apple has multiple products such as iPhone and iPad that could fully utilize this booming technology, the company has not yet entered this field. However, according to reports, this situation may soon change as Apple plans to introduce generative AI when launching iOS 18 on iPhone 16.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg in his Power On newsletter, Apple is preparing to introduce generative artificial intelligence on the iPhone 16 and is proceeding cautiously to catch up with competitors like Google and Microsoft. Reports indicate that Apple's engineering team has even paused work on updates such as iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 for quality control after detecting numerous bugs in the code. Engineers have allegedly been tasked with fixing all issues before moving forward with new features for the next major software release.

Gurman pointed out that this additional step is because the iPhone16 is expected to launch next year, and the phone is said to skip any new groundbreaking features. Therefore, Apple's entire marketing strategy may depend on its next iPhone operating system, iOS18.

According to reports, Apple's artificial intelligence work is led by two senior vice presidents, John Giannandrea and Craig Federighi. Giannandrea's team is dedicated to developing AI systems and implementing them through Siri, while Federighi's team is actively working on integrating generative AI features into iOS 18. The report further states that this addition could enhance multiple functionalities of iOS, particularly Siri and Messages, enabling applications to auto-complete sentences or even answer questions.
