Huawei recently applied for a new patent aimed at protecting the copyright of AI large models and automatically generating watermarked responses. Currently, major internet companies are actively developing their own AI large model products, which has led to numerous copyright disputes and intense competition.

According to Qichacha App, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. filed a patent titled "A Method, Device, and Computing Device Cluster for Language Model Protection" on November 7, which has now been published. The patent document states that developing systems based on large language models requires significant machine and human resources, making the large language model itself a core asset for companies building AI competitiveness.

However, existing research has confirmed that model theft techniques can replicate the functionality of large language models at a lower cost, thereby infringing on their intellectual property. Therefore, it is particularly important to effectively protect large language models to prevent model theft attacks and identify existing infringements.

The patent abstract reveals that Huawei's method includes the following steps: First, obtaining the user's input request text; second, if the request belongs to a target category, inputting the target instruction and request text into the language model for processing to generate a first response with a watermark, which is then output; third, if the request text does not belong to the target category, inputting the request text into the target language model for processing to generate a second response, which is then output.

Through this method, when the language model processes specific types of requests, it can automatically generate watermarked responses to enhance copyright protection without compromising the quality of the generated text.

The above outlines the main content of Huawei's new patent. With the continuous development of large AI models, protecting their copyright has become a key focus for major internet companies. Huawei's patent application offers a novel solution to address copyright issues related to large language models, which holds positive implications for the industry's advancement.
