Instagram to Introduce Generative AI Image Editing Features
-
Meta is delivering on its promise to integrate generative AI across all its products. At the Connect event, the company unveiled Instagram's new AI image editing and sticker creation capabilities.
The tool called "restyle" functions like an enhanced generative AI filter. It allows users to transform existing photos into different styles. Users can input descriptors such as "watercolor" or more detailed prompts to define the desired look and feel of the new image.
The company also previewed a new tool called "backdrop," a generative AI-based green screen feature. Users can input prompts like "place me in front of a magnificent aurora borealis," and it will generate a new version of the image with the specified background applied. Meta did not disclose when the restyle and backdrop features will be available to Instagram users but stated these tools are coming "soon."
Meta also showcased AI-based stickers, which will be rolled out on Instagram as well as WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook Stories. This feature enables users to quickly create custom stickers for chats and stories using text prompts. The stickers will be available to "select English-speaking users" within "the next month."
These features follow Mark Zuckerberg's repeated promises that generative AI capabilities will be integrated into every Meta-owned app. The company also announced over 25 generative AI chatbots, including several modeled after real-life celebrities and creators.
