Android Version of ChatGPT Officially Launched, Initially Available in Four Countries
-
The ChatGPT Android version is now available on the Google Play Store, months after the free iOS app brought the chatbot to iPhones and iPads. According to a tweet from the company, it is initially available in the U.S., India, Bangladesh, and Brazil, with other countries to follow later, consistent with the phased rollout seen with the iOS version.
Data from Sensor Tower and Similarweb previously showed a noticeable decline in ChatGPT's website traffic and app installations in June.
ChatGPT has been a model of explosive success until the launch of Threads. It remains unclear whether this hype will continue or if it has already reached a plateau.
OpenAI's GPT-4 model also powers the Bing AI chatbot, which has been available on Android for months, while Google's Bard AI relies solely on a web interface rather than a dedicated app. Although many tech companies are rolling out AI-based tools for mobile apps, Apple has yet to launch its own chatbot. However, a recent Bloomberg report suggests the company is internally testing one.
