Vantage Data Centers (Vantage) has secured a US$1.6bn investment to expand its Asia-Pacific (APAC) network, with the firm looking to cater to skyrocketing demands for AI and cloud computing infrastructure in the region.
The investment will come from GIC, a global institutional investor, as well as a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).
Both organisations are already backers of Vantage through their affiliate firms.
As part of this expansion, Vantage is entering the Malaysian market by acquiring Yondr Group's (Yondr) more than 300MW hyperscale campus in Sedenak Tech Park, Johor, which will set the US-based company up with a readymade hub for its activities.

The growing demand for AI infrastructure
The site represents one of Southeast Asia's largest hyperscale facilities and joins DigitalBridge Group's portfolio through its investment vehicles.
DigitalBridge maintains its position as one of Vantage's primary investors.
This investment reflects the growing demand for AI-ready digital infrastructure in APAC.
The funding will support both the Johor acquisition and further regional development to accommodate increasing AI workloads and cloud computing requirements.
Jeremy Deutsch, President of Vantage Data Centers, APAC
"With the support of GIC and ADIA, we are positioned as one of the largest providers of sustainable AI and cloud digital infrastructure in the region," says Jeremy Deutsch, President of Vantage Data Centers, APAC.
"Adding the Johor campus to our portfolio will bring our APAC footprint to 1GW of capacity. This acquisition enables Vantage APAC to continue to deliver scale and speed for our customers."

A strategic investment
"We are pleased to partner with Vantage, alongside DigitalBridge and ADIA, to support the development of data centre infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific region," says Boon Chin Hau, Chief Investment Officer, Infrastructure at GIC.
"As a leading global data centre developer and operator, Vantage is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for data centre capacity in the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to contributing to its ongoing expansion and success."
Khadem AlRemeithi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Department at ADIA
Khadem AlRemeithi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Department at ADIA, adds: "This expansion of our existing relationship with Vantage, one of the world's leading developers and operators of hyperscale data centres, aligns with our strategy of investing in infrastructure that enables digitalisation."

The trick to implementing advanced technologies
The Johor campus, designated as JHB1, will span approximately 73 acres and deliver more than 300MW of IT capacity across three facilities upon completion.
Its location in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone provides strategic advantages, including dark fibre connectivity and access to Singapore's thriving data centre market.
The facility incorporates cutting-edge technologies specifically designed for AI workloads, including direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems.
The campus aims to achieve EDGE certification, demonstrating commitment to sustainable operations through green building standards.
The strategic location of Johor offers competitive advantages for data centre operations, including cost-effective land and operational expenses compared to Singapore, supported by favourable government policies.
With the addition of the Johor facility, Vantage's APAC platform will reach 1GW of combined operational and planned IT capacity.
The company's regional presence now extends across Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, strengthening its position in APAC's digital infrastructure landscape.
