OpenAI suddenly released its first text-to-video model—Sora. Simply put, the AI video landscape is about to change! It can not only create realistic and imaginative scenes based on text instructions but also generate ultra-long videos up to 1 minute in length, all in a single take. Runway Gen 2, Pika, and other AI video tools are still struggling to achieve coherence within a few seconds, while OpenAI has already set an epic record. A 60-second single take, with the female protagonist and background characters maintaining astonishing consistency, seamless camera switches, and god-like stability in character portrayal. OpenAI announced it is teaching AI to understand and simulate the physical world in motion, aiming to train models that assist humans in solving real-world interaction challenges. Introducing Sora, a text-to-video model capable of generating up to one-minute videos while maintaining visual quality and adhering to user prompts.

Currently, Sora is accessible to a limited group for evaluating potential risks. OpenAI has also invited visual artists, designers, and filmmakers to provide feedback, refining the model to better support creative professionals. By sharing progress early, OpenAI seeks collaboration and public awareness of upcoming AI advancements.

    Technical Highlights:

    • Sora is a diffusion model that generates entire videos or extends them from noise.
    • It predicts multiple frames at once, ensuring consistency even if objects temporarily leave the frame.
    • Utilizing a Transformer architecture (like GPT), Sora scales effectively.
    • Videos and images are represented as "patches" (similar to GPT's tokens), enabling training across diverse durations, resolutions, and aspect ratios.
    • Building on DALL·E and GPT research, Sora employs DALL·E 3's captioning technique for precise text-to-video alignment.

    Capabilities:

    • Generates videos from text prompts or animates static images with attention to detail.
    • Extends existing videos by filling missing frames (technical paper pending).

OpenAI positions Sora as foundational for AGI, bridging digital and physical realms. Zhou Hongyi, founder of 360 Group, remarked: "Sora's integration of LLM and diffusion models accelerates AGI timelines from a decade to just 1–2 years by leveraging video data's rich information density."
