Chinese Entrepreneurs Launch AI Video Generation Tool Haiper, Securing Millions in Funding
-
Recently, two Chinese entrepreneurs, Miao Yishu and Wang Ziyu, co-founded an AI startup that introduced Haiper, a video generation tool powered by their self-developed AI model. Both founders hold PhDs in machine learning from the University of Oxford and bring extensive knowledge and practical experience to the table. Initially, Haiper focused on AI 3D modeling, but the team later pivoted to AI video generation, launching a beta version of Haiper within just six months.
Currently, Haiper has completed two rounds of funding, with the latest round raising $13.8 million, led by Octopus Ventures and followed by 5Y Capital. Unlike other video generation products that operate on a subscription model, users can access Haiper directly via its official website. However, Haiper currently only supports generating high-definition videos up to 2 seconds long or standard-definition videos up to 4 seconds long, which falls short compared to mainstream products in terms of generation length.

In addition to video generation, Haiper provides video cartoonization, photo cartoonization, and video repainting features, with plans to introduce extended video capabilities in the future. The founders stated that Haiper's video generation functionality is not yet mature enough, so they are temporarily avoiding a paid subscription model and instead focusing on building a community ecosystem. For B2B applications, Haiper has already partnered with companies like JD.com to explore commercial scenarios.
Haiper primarily focuses on consumer-facing website video generation products but plans to develop a more widely applicable video generation model. The company has privately contacted developers to test Haiper's API and is using feedback to optimize the AI model. In the future, Haiper aims to create a general-purpose AI model with complete perceptual capabilities, enabling AI to better understand the world and replicate real-world scenarios. Although the AI video generation field is highly competitive, if Haiper achieves breakthroughs in video realism technology and identifies practical applications for average users, surpassing other similar products is not impossible. In the current landscape of continuous advancements in AI video generation technology, Haiper is inevitably facing market challenges. However, with technological progress and continuous optimization, Haiper may have the opportunity to stand out in the field of AI video and achieve its commercialization goals.
