Is the first money-making opportunity in the Year of the Dragon AI knowledge monetization?

While some are still on Spring Festival vacation, others have already started earning through AI knowledge monetization...

On February 16, 2024, OpenAI's latest text-to-video model "Sora" quietly debuted. Despite no prior promotion, Sora quickly became a major topic in the tech world, sparking discussions from figures like 360 founder Zhou Hongyi and top AI scholar Yann LeCun.

Like a stone causing ripples in a pond, while most people were still immersed in the holiday season, Sora's debut allowed some to glimpse the dawn of a new wealth-creation opportunity.

Some have already compiled lists of A-share listed companies involved in text-to-video businesses. Moreover, even before the text-to-video market fully matures, a few keen entrepreneurs have already struck gold through knowledge monetization.

It's been noted that although Sora is currently only available to a small group of users and hasn't entered public testing, paid courses about Sora's features have simultaneously gained popularity.

Additionally, Sora's release has even boosted sales of other GPT-related knowledge monetization courses. A blogger selling personal GPT setup tutorials on Knowledge Planet told reporters they've noticed a significant increase in payment rates recently. They revealed that their course, priced at about 500 yuan and originally listed in mid-2023, has gained over ten new paying members through various channels like Knowledge Planet and WeChat in just two days since Sora's release. In a Sora learning group, a member revealed: "Today, a short video production boss called me asking if I had any testing channels for Sora... It's clear this is affecting many people's livelihoods."

Meng Ling, a product manager at a domestic AI company, joked: "On the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, we welcomed the God of Wealth—but unexpectedly, it was OpenAI."

Sora Takes the Throne, Domestic Giants Enter the Arena

Zhou Hongyi, founder of 360, believes that Sora means the realization of AGI will be shortened from 10 years to just 1 year.

Before Sora, the last viral text-to-video tool was Pika, which debuted on November 28, 2023. Pika supports generating videos in various styles, including 3D animation, 2D anime, and cartoons.

Due to its stunning effects, Pika once sparked large-scale discussions. Even the A-share listed company "Xinyada," which is unrelated to AI but led by the father of Pika's millennial founder, saw its stock price surge.

However, the "cruel" reality is that while Pika's popularity still lingers in internet memory, Sora—with similar functionalities—has once again pushed the boundaries of text-to-video models upon its release, claiming the title of "the most advanced video generation tool."

The continuous improvement in text-to-video tools has demonstrated the feasibility of commercializing such products, attracting more market participants to join the fray.

In recent times, betting on a "domestic Pika" has almost become a must-do for domestic tech giants: At the end of 2023, Baidu launched its text-to-video tool 'DuJia Editor,' which claims to 'access the latest trends with one click, generate AI scripts, and produce videos instantly.'

According to multiple media reports, over the past year, ByteDance's video editing tool CapCut has been striving for breakthroughs in AI-assisted creation and is about to release an AI-generated image and video product.

Some analysts suggest that beyond the fiercely competitive development of text-to-video tools dominated by tech giants, 'there may still be a need for extensive middleware development in practical industry applications,' indicating opportunities in more niche sectors. Additionally, downstream applications like video games are also seen as investment hotspots.

Since ChatGPT's groundbreaking debut at the end of 2022, U.S. startup OpenAI has firmly positioned itself at the core of the new wave of technological advancements, leading global AGI development with dense and pioneering strides.

In March 2023, shortly after the Lunar New Year, OpenAI released the multimodal pre-trained model GPT-4. Reports indicate that OpenAI's revenue in 2023 may exceed $1.6 billion, a 56-fold year-on-year increase. In September 2023, OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman projected that the company's revenue could double in 2024.

As the Year of the Dragon approaches, OpenAI has once again captured attention with its new innovation, Sora.

It is foreseeable that the AI market will remain highly active in the coming year, and the race to develop a 'domestic version of Sora' may emerge as the foremost challenge for China's AI industry.
