Sora Boosts OpenAI's Valuation by 275%! Soaring to Become the World's Third Largest Unicorn
-
Recently, OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT, released its first text-to-video model Sora, enabling users to generate up to one minute of high-definition video with just a single sentence.
Following the release of Sora, OpenAI's valuation has surged significantly.
Market expectations suggest that in the latest funding round led by venture capital firm Thrive Capital, OpenAI's valuation is projected to exceed $80 billion (approximately 575.5 billion yuan). For comparison, when OpenAI released ChatGPT at the beginning of last year, the company was valued at approximately $29 billion (about 208.6 billion yuan). Now, it has skyrocketed by 275%.
An $80 billion valuation also means the company has become the third most valuable tech startup globally, trailing only ByteDance ($225 billion) and Elon Musk's space transportation company SpaceX ($150 billion).
After the release of Sora, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, an early founder who parted ways with OpenAI, commented 'gg humans' while reposting a netizen's post. 'gg' is an internet slang abbreviation for 'good games,' often used to express a loser's heartfelt admiration. 360 founder Zhou Hongyi also stated that the birth of Sora means the realization of AGI may be shortened from 10 years to about two years.
