At the Davos Forum, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that AI cannot replace humans and warned against overemphasizing the technology to the point of causing panic.

Altman noted that although AI has made significant progress in certain areas, its capabilities still have limitations. He believes that AI cannot fully replace human judgment and creativity and should be viewed as an auxiliary tool rather than a substitute.

Regarding concerns about AI, Altman expressed understanding but emphasized that OpenAI is actively working to steer AI toward what they consider a 'safe' technological direction. The gradual deployment of AI models allows society sufficient time to discuss their impacts and establish safeguards. In terms of regulation, Altman expressed confidence in addressing the issues surrounding global AI deployment and implementation. He believes that handing over technology to people and allowing society and technology to co-evolve is the only way forward. By gradually building systems that meet safety requirements, we can ensure that the development of AI technology does not pose harm to humanity.

In November 2023, Altman was dismissed by the OpenAI board, primarily due to the board's concerns about AI safety and OpenAI's role in protecting AI, stating they had lost confidence in his leadership. Following strong opposition from OpenAI employees and investors, Altman was quickly reinstated to his position.
