5G+AI, Illuminating Trendy Lives for the Silver Generation
-
On July 12, a unique science outreach event for the elderly was held at China Unicom's Taidong Business Hall in Qingdao. Staff not only explained topics like "smartphone applications," "smart homes," and "information fraud prevention" but also added a digital imaging workshop, creating personalized video ringtones showcasing seniors' talents, which brought great excitement and joy.
5G Technology Illuminates Trendy Lives for the Silver Generation
The Shandong branch of China Unicom's Science Association has established tech-assisted elderly care volunteer teams across the province, conducting special outreach activities like "Bridging the Digital Divide for the Silver Generation" in business halls and communities. These initiatives aim to help seniors better integrate into the smart era and address their "tech challenges."
Recent activities revealed that many elderly individuals are not only eager to learn common smartphone applications like WeChat, ride-hailing, medical appointments, mobile payments, and online shopping but also aspire to keep up with 5G trends. They want to create videos, showcase their talents, and turn their phones into personal stages to connect with like-minded friends, just like younger generations.
To meet the social needs of the silver generation, Shandong Unicom's Science Association has expanded its outreach curriculum, adding hands-on 5G video ringtone creation. The Qingdao tech volunteer team set up a green screen photography area in the business hall, using 5G devices for innovative elderly tech assistance. Through virtual VR processing systems and AI synthesis technology, they seamlessly integrated people and scenes.
China Unicom's 5G Lights Up "Trendy Lives for the Silver Generation"
Unlike the cheerful and fashionable grandmothers, Mr. Qiu Fangguo exuded a scholarly aura. When he unfurled his nearly 10-meter-long scroll of Thousand-Character Classic in small regular script, the audience erupted in applause. At their invitation, Mr. Qiu began painting on the spot, with the process captured in real-time on a display next to the green screen—the only difference being that the background transformed into an ink-wash landscape.
Seniors at the event shared that they previously didn’t understand terms like DIY, VR, or AI, assuming these novelties were only for the young. Seeing green screens in movies, they thought such high-tech special effects were far beyond their reach—never imagining they’d get to experience them firsthand.
Focusing on Smart Elderly Assistance, Embracing Corporate Responsibility
Moving forward, Shandong Unicom will continue to actively respond to societal calls for elderly care and support, upgrading its tech-assisted services to help seniors adapt to the digital society and improve their smart living experiences. With warm and thoughtful services, the company aims to bridge the digital divide alongside the silver generation, ensuring they gain more fulfillment, happiness, and security.
