How to Prevent AI Face-Swapping Scams? Anti-Fraud Q&A Provides Answers
-
"I heard about AI face-swapping scams—how can we avoid being tricked?" "Summer vacation is here—how can we prevent kids from being scammed while gaming?" On July 14, at China Telecom's Chongqing Nanping Love Wing Station, a lively anti-fraud Q&A event was held, attracting over 50 community members.
Since June 15, the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Public Security have launched a nationwide "National Anti-Fraud in Action" awareness campaign. The Chongqing Anti-Fraud Center aimed to use this community event to answer questions and reinforce anti-fraud knowledge in a relatable way.
"During summer vacation, kids at home will inevitably use phones and play games—how can we prevent them from being scammed?" asked one parent on-site.
Officer Zhang Siyu from the Chongqing Anti-Fraud Center responded: "Parents should first manage their children's screen time. If kids have gaming or shopping accounts, link them to a parent's phone to monitor usage and spending. Also, educate children about scams—never share payment passwords with them to prevent unauthorized transfers."
"I heard scammers use high-tech methods like AI face-swapping—how can we avoid falling for it?" another resident asked.
Deputy Captain Fu Min of the Nan'an District Anti-Fraud Center explained: "If you receive a video call from a supposed acquaintance and suspect AI manipulation, try interrupting—prerecorded videos can't interact in real time. Alternatively, if they video-call, ask for a phone call, or vice versa. Most importantly, if they request money, always think twice."
Telecom ambassadors also educated attendees on secure SIM card usage, reminding them never to lend, sell, or share ID-registered phone numbers.
The Chongqing Anti-Fraud Center has recently amplified anti-fraud messaging through TV programs, tourist spots, delivery stations, public transit, and shopping districts, while collaborating with education and labor departments to target vulnerable groups like students. Moving forward, the center will innovate outreach methods and strengthen partnerships for broader awareness.
