Musk Responds to BYD Overtaking Tesla in Sales, Calls Tesla an AI Company

BYD surpassed Tesla in the fourth quarter of 2023 to become the world's largest pure electric vehicle manufacturer. Tesla delivered 484,500 vehicles in the quarter, with an annual total reaching 1.8086 million, while BYD delivered 526,400 pure electric vehicles in the same quarter, with annual sales of 1.5748 million.
In response, Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared his perspective. On social media, he emphasized Tesla's core mission, stating that Tesla is an artificial intelligence/robotics company, even though many perceive it more as an automotive company. Musk pointed out that Tesla's future revenue opportunities primarily lie in its investment strategy for full self-driving technology and the humanoid robot Optimus.
Some analysts believe that if Tesla proceeds as planned, its future revenue opportunities will be enormous. Tesla's investment strategy in Full Self-Driving and the humanoid robot Optimus is considered central to its future development. Ark Invest has set a target price of $2000 for Tesla by 2027, believing that Tesla's future autonomous taxi business line will contribute the majority of its enterprise value and EBITDA.
