As the shortage of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) continues, companies and venture capitalists are scrambling to purchase these chips to run powerful AI models. Nvidia (NVIDIA), a chip giant leading the AI boom, announced plans to triple the production of GPUs driving the AI revolution. Other hardware startups are also racing to develop AI processors.

Insider has identified the top 100 people making AI smart, and here is the ranking list in the hardware sector. These leaders come from major companies like Google, Nvidia, and Intel, as well as startups such as Cerebras and Ampere.

David Brown, Amazon AWS Services Amazon is working on developing its own custom chips to catch up with the generative AI boom. Brown, who heads Amazon Web Services, is leading this effort. During an event at Amazon's Seattle headquarters, Brown stated that Amazon's own chips—Inferentia and Trainium—outperform competitors, including Nvidia, in terms of price-performance.

Sanja Fidler, Nvidia Fidler is the Vice President of AI Research at Nvidia, overseeing the company's Toronto AI Lab. She has authored over 170 research papers and has a particular interest in computer vision and neural graphics.

Jack Hidary, SandboxAQ Hidary is exploring the intersection of AI and quantum technology. His company, SandboxAQ, began as a research unit within Alphabet's X building, investigating how to run quantum workloads using the same chips that power AI.

Sissie Hsiao, Google Hsiao is responsible for Google's Bard chatbot and the voice assistant Google Assistant, both of which are important products for Google to demonstrate its AI strength.

Michael Intrator, CoreWeave Intrator and his colleague Brian Venturo began purchasing Nvidia GPUs in 2017 to satisfy their crypto mining hobby. Today, CoreWeave provides enterprise access to these hard-to-obtain chips through cloud computing.

Renee James, Ampere James is the founder and CEO of Ampere, a company that develops chips for data centers.

Sean Lie, Cerebras Systems Cerebras Systems builds specialized chips that are significantly larger than competitors like Nvidia's, which the company claims can train AI systems potentially hundreds of times faster.

Daphne Luong, Apple Luong is Apple's senior director of machine learning and AI, overseeing the training and development of the company's AI models.

Sandra Rivera, Intel As the head of Intel's Data Center and AI Group, Rivera leads Intel's AI strategy.

Lisa Su, AMD Lisa Su has been a long-time leader at AMD. Under her leadership, AMD's stock price has increased nearly 30-fold.
