Lenovo Launches Three New Products, Expanding Its AI-Oriented Infrastructure Portfolio

On December 19, the 'Lenovo Intelligent Computing Unlimited & Full-Stack Smart Infrastructure New Product Showcase' was successfully held in Tianjin. Lenovo Group officially announced that Lenovo Wentian and Lenovo ThinkSystem now fully support the 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors. At the event, Lenovo also launched three major new product series.

The three new product series include: the Lenovo Wentian G3 and Lenovo ThinkSystem V3 series, which are the first to feature the 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors. Among them are the star product—Lenovo Wentian WR5220 G3 server, the Lenovo Wentian WR3220 G2 server, which is the first model targeting small and medium-sized enterprises in China, and the Lenovo Intelligent Edge Cloud and Edge Hyper-Converged Appliance series designed for edge scenarios. These new products further enrich Lenovo's computing infrastructure coverage from cloud to edge scenarios.

Key executives, including Zhou Tao, General Manager of the Server Product Department at Lenovo China's Infrastructure Business Group, Dang Yabin, Director of Intelligent Edge Cloud Products and Solutions at Lenovo China's Intelligent Edge Business Unit, Cai Xiang, Senior Manager of the General Server Product Management Department at Lenovo China's Infrastructure Business Group, and Peng Zhenfei, Intel China's Sustainability Project Leader, shared insights on the newly released products and cutting-edge technologies.

Zhou Tao stated that the launch of these new products further enhances Lenovo's 'comprehensive, high-performance, and green' computing infrastructure portfolio. This not only strengthens Lenovo's full-stack intelligent capabilities but also solidifies the 'computing foundation' for the intelligent transformation of various industries.

Star Products First to Feature New Platform, Lenovo Server Products Undergo Full Upgrade

At the product showcase event, Zhou Tao announced that Lenovo's Wentian and ThinkSystem server lines will undergo a comprehensive upgrade, becoming the first to support the 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors.

According to reports, compared to the previous generation platform with 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the new platform delivers further performance enhancements, achieving an average 21% performance boost at the same TDP. Memory bandwidth increases by up to 16%, and L3 cache capacity grows by 2.7 times. Additionally, the new platform offers superior energy efficiency, with built-in accelerators improving performance-per-watt by up to 10x.

At the event, Peng Zhenfei, Intel China's Sustainability Program Leader, shared insights into cutting-edge technologies and highlighted the features of the 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors. He emphasized, "The 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors are designed for AI acceleration, optimizing performance for workloads to drive business growth. They also deliver energy-efficient computing to reduce costs and carbon emissions, empowering sustainability."

Cai Xiang, Senior Manager of Lenovo China's Infrastructure Business Group's General Server Product Management, introduced the upgraded Lenovo Wentian WR5220 G3 server. It boasts high performance, reliability, scalability, and low power consumption, meeting diverse workload demands from medium-to-large enterprises and cloud service providers. The WR5220 G3 not only delivers robust performance but also maintains consistent reliability in design, supporting both liquid and air cooling to help customers reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) while providing sustainable, green computing power.

In terms of reliability, the Lenovo Wentian WR5220 G3 undergoes 100% 1000V DC Hipot testing before leaving the factory, ensuring ultra-high voltage resistance quality and industry-leading testing standards. For scalability, the WR5220 G3 offers enhanced I/O expansion capabilities, supporting up to 20x 3.5-inch or 40x 2.5-inch hard drives, as well as up to 32 NVMe SSDs, delivering superior TCO and cost-effectiveness for enterprise customers. In energy efficiency, the WR5220 G3 incorporates exclusive thermal designs that improve heat dissipation by 50%, achieving optimal cooling performance.

At the event, Lenovo also launched the Wentian WR3220 G2 server, specifically designed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in China. This product is a scalable server that perfectly combines high performance with cost-effectiveness, offering flexibility, reliability, and security to meet the majority of customer workloads. Equipped with abundant expansion slots, it provides flexible storage, I/O, and reliability to handle various business workloads. Additionally, predictive failure analysis across multiple subsystems ensures continuous and orderly operation, delivering high reliability and stability.

Diverse Scenarios and Comprehensive Cloud-to-Edge Coverage

In the 5G era, the rise of edge computing data centers is creating greater opportunities for the hyper-converged market. Gartner predicts that over 35% of hyper-converged products will be applied in edge computing by 2023. To address the promising edge computing sector, Lenovo released the Lenovo Intelligent Edge Cloud and the new Lenovo Edge Hyper-Converged Appliance.

The Lenovo Intelligent Edge Cloud adopts a next-generation, horizontally scalable, software-defined hyper-converged architecture. It integrates general-purpose hardware units such as CPU, memory, storage, networking, and virtualization software platforms, breaking down the traditional silos of servers, networks, and storage to achieve a unified HCI form. It supports multi-network convergence access, local cluster multi-dimensional visual maintenance, enhanced security policies, improved VM cloning, backup and recovery performance, and guided rapid deployment of application software. It also supports three-node and single-node deployment configurations.

The Lenovo Edge Hyper-Converged Appliance combines computing, storage, networking, and security functions into a deeply integrated solution. It features high availability, simplified deployment, easy management, and security, promoting diversified development from general-purpose to edge computing. This product aims to provide industries with an edge hyper-converged computing engine that is easier to deploy, more reliable, and simpler to operate. It offers five key advantages: modular components, integrated delivery, diverse scenarios, simplified operations, and a consistent experience, delivering unprecedented edge computing capabilities and making AI accessible to every enterprise.
