OpenAI Reopens ChatGPT Plus Paid Subscription Service
-
On December 14th, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company has reopened new user registrations for the ChatGPT Plus paid subscription service.
In mid-November, Altman similarly announced on social media that new ChatGPT Plus account registrations would be temporarily suspended.
He explained that since the first Developer Day, the surge in ChatGPT usage had exceeded their capacity, necessitating the pause on new paid user registrations to ensure a good experience for all users.
However, he also mentioned that they were working hard to "increase capacity and hope to" resume new user registrations soon, encouraging interested users to join the waitlist.
The impact of suspending ChatGPT Plus new user registrations is quite evident. On auction websites like eBay, some users have started renting out ChatGPT Plus accounts for at least $10 per month (approximately 72 RMB), while others are selling ChatGPT Plus invitation codes for 428 euros (approximately 3,326 RMB).
According to previous data, ChatGPT's usage in the first 10 months of this year reached 14.6 billion times, averaging 1.5 billion per month, with weekly active users exceeding 100 million. Additionally, 92% of Fortune 500 companies are using its products.
