Since OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT gained popularity, interest in artificial intelligence (AI) has reached new heights. Although AI is not a new field, it remains relatively unexplored, with more companies investing resources in research. As the AI field progresses, some experts have begun discussing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), a concept where machines can understand the world and act autonomously like humans.

According to a report by Business Insider, researchers from Microsoft, William & Mary College, and various Asian research centers recently conducted a study to explore whether large language models (LLMs) can understand human emotions. The study found that generative AI tools like ChatGPT may indeed "understand and respond to emotional cues." The research also noted that when prompts included emotional cues, ChatGPT's response quality significantly improved, such as when phrases like "This is very important to me" or "This plays a crucial role in my career" were used.

Other examples of emotional language used in prompts included: "You better make sure," "Remember, progress is made step by step. Stay determined and keep moving forward," and "Take pride in your work and do your best. Your commitment to excellence sets you apart." Therefore, if ChatGPT can indeed understand human emotions and respond better when prompts include emotional context, we may be one step closer to AGI.

In June of this year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shared his perspective on AGI in an interview with Wired magazine. He expressed his dream of "8 billion people on Earth each having an AI mentor, an AI doctor, a programmer, and perhaps even an advisor." During the same interview, when asked whether he agreed with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's views on humanity reaching the AGI superintelligence standard, Nadella responded that he is more focused on the benefits of AI. He voiced concerns about how the Industrial Revolution took a long time to reach the place where he grew up. Therefore, he is seeking something even more transformative than the Industrial Revolution—providing everyone in the world with the same opportunities as those in the Western world.

He also stated that he is "not at all worried about AGI emerging, or emerging quickly." He added that if it does come to pass, it would be "great" because it would mean "8 billion people having abundant resources, and that would be a wonderful world."
