Tech Professionals' Distrust in AI Recruitment Tools: 68% Express Concerns
-
In today's recruitment processes, artificial intelligence (AI) tools are widely used, but job seekers' skepticism is intensifying. According to the latest Dice report, 68% of tech professionals distrust AI-driven hiring systems, while 80% prefer human-led recruitment methods. The report shows that nearly 30% of respondents are considering leaving the tech industry entirely due to heightened frustration with AI-enhanced hiring, particularly among women.

In an email interview with TechRepublic, Dice CEO Art Zeile stated that while AI has played a positive role in improving recruitment team efficiency, the 68% distrust rate is "not a small number. This signals that fundamental issues persist in hiring systems from candidates' perspectives." He added that the finding that 30% of tech workers are considering leaving the industry is particularly concerning.
Zeile pointed out that the root cause of this distrust lies in how AI is applied in recruitment, especially when transparency and human oversight are lacking. He emphasized, "Candidates have made it clear that trust disappears when the hiring process feels like a black box." While employers may boost operational efficiency, if it alienates top talent, it becomes a lose-lose scenario for the industry.
According to the Dice report, 92% of tech professionals believe qualified candidates may be overlooked due to AI tools favoring keyword optimization. Zeile noted, "This reflects a perception that the system prioritizes conformity over competence." Additionally, 78% of respondents feel current hiring practices pressure them to exaggerate qualifications, and 65% have adjusted their resumes to better match AI screening criteria.
Zeile stressed that the Dice report shows AI is not the enemy but requires more thoughtful integration. Tech professionals aren't rejecting innovation but want a fairer, more human, and transparent hiring process. He said, "The solution isn't abandoning AI but applying it more responsibly. A hybrid hiring model that uses AI to support rather than replace human decision-making has three times the trust level of fully automated approaches."
This research is based on Dice's survey of 212 U.S. tech professionals conducted in June and July 2025.
