Google Invests $2 Billion in AI Startup Anthropic
-
Latest news: On October 31, a spokesperson for Google, under Alphabet, announced that the company has agreed to invest up to $2 billion (approximately 14.6 billion RMB) in the AI company Anthropic. The spokesperson stated that Google has initially invested $500 million in this key competitor of OpenAI and agreed to add another $1.5 billion afterward.
Previously, Google was already a major investor in Anthropic. As large tech companies race to integrate AI into their businesses, this new investment will help Google intensify its ongoing competition with Microsoft.
Anthropic is a generative AI startup co-founded in 2021 by Dario Amodei, former Vice President of Research at OpenAI, GPT-3 lead author Tom Brown, and others, headquartered in San Francisco, California. Most of the company's founding members were core employees of OpenAI, having deeply participated in key research projects such as GPT-3 and reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF).
